Our homes and buildings shape so much of daily life for Westminster residents, so making sure works are delivered safely, properly and to the highest standard is critical. The Clerk of Works plays a vital role in that commitment. It’s a position for someone who cares deeply about quality, who enjoys being out on site, and who takes pride in getting things right for residents and the wider community.
In this role, you’ll be the council’s eyes and ears on the ground across a range of Major Works schemes. You’ll spend much of your time on site, checking workmanship, assessing compliance and spotting issues before they become problems. Your insight will help keep projects safe, efficient and aligned with design specifications. You’ll build strong working relationships with contractors, project managers, resident liaison colleagues and commercial teams, making sure everyone is pulling in the same direction to deliver the best possible outcomes.
A big part of your role will involve translating what you see on site into clear, accurate technical advice. You’ll produce inspection reports, raise early warnings, record defects, and recommend practical solutions that help teams keep programmes on track. You’ll also help ensure residents feel informed and respected throughout the works process, communicating clearly, listening to concerns and helping to minimise disruption wherever possible.
We’re looking for someone who brings sound technical judgement, a collaborative mindset and the confidence to challenge when needed. You’ll need experience inspecting works in a housing or construction environment, along with a good understanding of safety, compliance and quality assurance. Just as importantly, you’ll bring professionalism and empathy to your interactions with residents and colleagues, even in pressured or complex situations.
If you take pride in high standards, enjoy solving problems on site and want to help make sure our homes are safe, well built and delivered with care, we’d be pleased to hear from you.

Staff networks add to this culture by giving colleagues a real voice. Whether it’s the ABLE Network for staff with disabilities, the Global Majority Network, or Family Loop, these groups help shape policies, raise awareness and build community across the organisation.
In short: you’ll join a team that genuinely cares about inclusion and is always working to get better.
