Key stages in the selection process
Although the exact format may vary slightly by role, most candidates can expect the following:
- Initial review and conversations (depending on the level of the role) - if your experience matches what we’re looking for, you may be invited to an initial conversation to explore your background, interests and motivations. This stage is designed to help understand whether the role feels like a good fit.
- Application - you’ll apply online by uploading your CV and a brief supporting statement, no more than three-sides long for each. The key thing here is to provide evidence and examples of how you have delivered in your roles and what you would bring to Westminster. Don’t just tell us what you have done, tell us how. Your application will be reviewed carefully against the requirements of the role.
- Shortlisting - applications that best meet the criteria will progress to a shortlist for interview. All applicants will receive updates as the process moves forward.
- Technical or competency-based assessments for some specialist posts.
- Formal interviews – these will be either one stage or multi-stage depending on the level of the role.
- Panel interviews with our residents group members.
- Final discussions before any offer is made.
Throughout the process, you’ll receive clear guidance on what to expect and how to prepare.
